Respirators as personal protective equipment

For reliable protection of the respiratory system, you need to choose the right respirator not only in terms of protection, but also for individual characteristics. But first things first.

One of the main characteristics of a respirator is the protection class, indicating the ability to retain harmful substances in the filter. According to European standards, respirators are divided into three classes (in accordance with the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of harmful substances in the room):

  • Respirators of the 1st class (FFP1) - are used in rooms with maximum concentration limits up to 4 mg / m3, holding up to 80% of dust, liquid and solid aerosol particles. Duration of use: 4-8 hours. Valve color: white or yellow;
  • Respirators of class 2 (FFP2) - are used in rooms with a maximum concentration limit of 12 mg / m3, holding up to 84% of various impurities. Duration of use: 6-8 hours. Valve Color: Blue;
  • Respirators of class 3 (FFP3) - are used in rooms with a maximum permissible concentration of 30 mg / m3, holding up to 99% of impurities harmful to humans. Duration of use: 8-10 hours. Valve color: red.

Important: If the respirator is not labeled, use it as FFP1.

Remember: The mask filters the air on the exhale, and the respirator filters what you inhale, so their action is exactly the opposite.

Take care of yourself!
